A two-day Arctic business conference began on Thursday in the Norwegian coastal city of Bodo, discussing how the business community should contribute to the development in the Arctic region by behaving in a secure, safe, sustainable and responsible manner.
Participants included about a dozen CEOs from Canada, Finland, Denmark, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
Arctic Business 2014 is an initiative taken by the Norwegian Shipowners' Association in cooperation with Norway's leading ship and offshore classification society DNV GL.
The Arctic Business Council will hold its inaugural meeting during the course of the conference, which will be held once every two years in the future to amplify the voices from the business community over the Arctic issues.
"Arctic Business brings together the competence and insight of the business community, creating an arena for discussion and exchange of experiences in order to secure a sustainable business development," said Sturla Henriksen, CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association.
