Austria will provide its expertise and experience to establish a National Bureau of Investigation in Albania, the Albanian Telegraphic Agency reported Wednesday.
The cooperation was proposed during a meeting between Albanian Interior Minister Samir Tahiri and Director-General of Public Security of Austira, Konrad Kogler, who was accompanied by the heads of the Federal Criminal Office.
Tahiri briefed Austrian officials on reforms launched by the Albanian new government in the field of public security, saying sweeping reforms have affected all the laws.
He added the government anticipated the establishment of the National Bureau of Investigation, and needed the help of the Austrian side through expertise and training for the police officers. "We do not want the efficiency of investigations to be held hostage to inefficient professional capacity," said Tahiri.
Kogler said Austria woould not only send experts to Albania, but also host Albanian experts for study tours in Vienna. He invited Tahiri to attend the forum of ministers of interior affairs next spring in Salzburg.
