Sixteen municipalities in Serbia had declared state of emergency because of the floods, with rising water breaking into 287 houses.

More than 300 rescuers in 28 teams from the sector for emergencies work on evacuating the people from the flood struck areas. 59 have been evacuated by May 15.

State of emergency was declared in Valjevo, Sabac, Lucani, Mionica, Loznica, Zajecar Osecina and several other regions.

It is expected that the heavy rains that started on May 14 brought by a massive rain cloud that covered the most of Europe will last until the end of the week.

For now, police states that 322 houses remain in danger of the flood.

Additional police forces were sent to protect people and their property in cooperation with local authorities, especially with the most heavily struck municipalities Lazarevac, Koceljevo, Osecina, Loznica, Sabac and Valjevo.

During the night Sabac was visited by the Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic where some 100 homes are endangered by floods, while the interior minister Nebojsa Stefanovic went to Valjevo.

Numerous local roads are closed for traffic across Serbia, as well as the railway line Belgrade-Bar that connects Serbia and Montenegro.
