Estonian national police on Tuesday said they have imposed international financial sanctions on two companies owned by Aleksei Chaliy, the mayor of Sevastopol.
Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) reported that a statement to that effect was made to the media by Kaarel Kuusk, a spokesman of the Estonian police.
One of the two business companies controlled by Chaliy, Tavrida Electric Export, was registered in Estonia in 2003 dealing with and sale of industrial electronics, while the other, Tavrida Electric Holding, was registered in Switzerland, said the spokesman.
"Implementing financial sanctions means that the financial assets and economic resources belonging to the persons on the list or persons under their control will be frozen," Kuusk said.
Sevastopol is a city on the Black Sea, located in the southwestern region of the Crimean peninsula.
An overwhelming majority of Crimeans voted to join Russia at a referendum in the Crimean peninsula on March 16.
Following the referendum in the Crimean peninsula, the European Union imposed sanctions on 21 people, among them was Aleksei Chaliy.
