13 people shot dead in Serbia

13 people were shot dead by a man who went on rampage in a village outside the Serbian capital Belgrade.

The 60-year-old man first shot his son and then went to another five houses in Velika Ivanca opening fire to other people. According to Serb media, he shot dead his neighbours and relatives. Six men, six women and a baby were shot dead by the gunman, identified only as Ljubisa B. Ljubisa tried to kill his wife before turning his gun on himself, but both of them survived although remain in a critical satiation.

Milorad Veljovic, the regional police director said, “doctors are fighting to save the lives of two people, one of whom was the perpetrator of this terrible mass murder. The investigation has started and we are trying to ascertain the motive for this bloody crime.” According to Telegraph, the policeman described Ljubisa B as a normal family man who had no criminal record, while doctors added that he hadn’t any record indicating psychological problems.

According to RT, the Serbian media reported that the gunman’s family name is Bogdanovic, and that the child he shot dead was only 2 years old. Moreover, the Russian news agency reported that another woman wounded by the gunman is in critical condition.

A shooting of this scale has not happened in Serbia since 2007, when a villager used a hunting rifle and shot dead nine people. The Serbian police are currently trying to establish the motives behind this gruesome act.
